A novel filtration system using natural processes to remove bacteria contamination from community drinking water.

Nersa

The first Induced Bank Filter (IBF) was constructed in Nersa, Karnataka, India in 2020. This filter has shown removal of E.coli bacteria by greater than 99.9% and supplies water for the community of 300 people.

This project was carried out in partnership between the University of Rhode Island (URI) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).

In 2022 construction was carried out to ensure secure water access to the village and filter. This map shows the updated system.
